ZOO VIDEO:  Calf Bonds With Elephant Mom (7/10)

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― It's a girl! The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium is celebrating the arrival of a second female elephant calf today!

Moja, an African elephant, gave birth to her calf at 5:30am this morning.

A zoo spokesperson says both mom and baby are doing well.

The calf is actually the second new addition at the elephant barn this month.

On July 9th, another elephant gave birth to a female calf -- making it the first elephant arrival at the Pittsburgh zoo in eight years.

Both calves have the same dad:  Jackson, the zoo's bull elephant.

Zoo visitors will likely have to wait a few days before getting a glimpse of the newest addition.

After the first calf was born earlier this month, Zoo President & CEO Dr. Barbara Baker told KDKA they wanted to let her get a little steadier on her feet and to introduce her to the herd.

"Once we get her introduced to the herd," Dr. Baker told KDKA of the first calf, "she can get mobile, she can get up, she can lay down -- those kind of things, then we'll actually have her out on public display."

"We need a couple of days to bond," she added.

It shouldn't be too long, though.

The other calf made her public debut just three days after being born!
