Jefferson Hills Man Allegedly Abandons Cats

JEFFERSON HILLS (KDKA) ― Humane officials say a Jefferson Hills man could face charges after he allegedly abandoned his pets.

Neighbors complaining about the smell coming from James Englert's upstairs apartment in the 1100-block of Cochrans Mill Road notified authorities.

When humane officers went inside the apartment, they found two dead cats and a third one clinging to life.

Western Pa. Humane Society officer Dan Eckenrode says Englert is a person of interest and could face misdemeanor charges for animals dying without care.

The cat that survived is being examined by a veterinarian. If it becomes well, it will eventually be placed up for adoption.
