Man Admits Feeding Dogs Meat With Nails, Glass

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A man from the North Side surrendered to police this morning to face animal cruelty charges for feeding meat laced with nails and glass to a neighbor's dogs.

According to the criminal complaint, Brett Kolarik, 41, says he was upset that dogs' owner wouldn't stop them from barking.

He's accused of feeding meatballs containing nails and glass to Deborah Rogers' two dogs -- a beagle mix named Pepper and a Husky named Shadow.

Both animals were treated at Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center and are now recovering at home.

Kolarik turned himself in to face two counts of criminal attempt to commit cruelty to an animal and two counts of summary cruelty to animals.

He could face up to two years in prison for each of the animal cruelty charges – in addition to a fine of up to $4,000.
