Family Gets Unexpected Father's Day Visitor

GREENE COUNTY (KDKA) ― Sandy Liebhold got a surprise Father's Day visit last Sunday.

The Liebhold's, of Mt. Morris in Greene County, woke up early Sunday morning to cook a Father's Day breakfast of scones and bacon. The air was cool outside, so they left the backdoor open to let in a little fresh air. That's when it happened.

A 150-pound black bear waltzed into their home, poking around the Liebhold's kitchen and newly cooked breakfast.

"My wife Jenny came walking in the door she saw the bear she mistook it for my daughter Naomi … and said, "Naomi, is that you?" Sandy Liebhold said. "The bear went running out the door and Jenny went running out the door yelling, "There's a bear in the kitchen!"

The bear snagged a bag of flour on its way out, but only got as far as the front porch with it.

"It sat outside," Liebhold said. "I think it was kinda looking at it thinking, 'Hmm, wonder if I can come back and get that bag of flour?'"

The bear finally gave up on the bag of flour and disappeared into the woods.

"If we had been 5 minutes later the bear probably would've torn the kitchen up," Liebhold said. "We had butter and bacon but fortunately it never got that far."
