Live Webcam Catches Tiger Cubs, Mother Playing
Our live webcam, powered by Consolidated Communications, caught Mara and Petya romping around their den with their mom in their den
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
If you haven't been to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium lately or seen them on our live webcam, you might be surprised at just how much the tiger cubs have grown!
The brother and sister Amur tiger cubs, Mara and Petya, turned 8-months-old on April 8th.
When the zoo first showed off the new additions back in October, the then-two-month-old cubs only weighed about 14-pounds each.
But zoo officials weren't able to continue weighing the cubs for much longer after their media debut!
"At about 20 pounds, we stopped going in with them," the zoo's mammal curator Amos Morris told our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last month. Keepers estimated that the cubs weighed about 100-pounds in March.
Despite their size, though, anyone who has watched our live stream from their habitat knows that these youngsters love to play!
Just this week, our cameras caught Mara and Petya romping around their den with their mother, Toma. Though viewers could see mom keeping a watchful eye on her youngsters at times, it was hard to tell which ones were the cubs!
With the help of Consolidated Communications. which provides our live webcam stream, we've archived a little bit of the action!
