CHARLEROI (KDKA) ― The Washington Area Humane Society is hoping for some assistance from the public in order to make sure a severely injured dog gets the help he needs to make a full recovery.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, police in Charleroi are investigating after getting a call about the beating of pit bull mix.

The dog has been named Alexander by shelter workers.

The Trib reports that two residents reportedly saw a man beating the dog with a piece of wood last month. Then, police were called last week to help.

Officials with the Washington Area Humane Society say the dog is suffering from severe injuries including a broken hip and his other hip has been dislocated, he has infected wounds and had a fever when he arrived at the shelter.

His owner is likely to face charges.

Humane officials say Alex's surgery is likely to cost up to $1,800 to $2,400, so they are searching for donations from those willing to give.

Once he recovers he is expected to be placed in foster care, and will be put up for adoption once the case has been through the legal system.

To help Alex you can call: 724-222-PETS.
