Zubik: Mass At St. Patrick's A Special Moment

NEW YORK (KDKA) ― Pope Benedict XVI continued his visit to America today with a second day in New York City.

This morning, the Pope celebrated Mass at the city's St. Patrick's Cathedral for priests, deacons and other members of the clergy. He also reached out to thousands of young people at a rock concert-like rally in Yonkers, NY.

KDKA's David Highfield caught up with Pittsburgh's Bishop David Zubik in New York.

Bishop Zubik says overall the American people's response to the Pope is stronger than he expected.

"It's far more than I anticipated," said Bishop Zubik. "People have been very, very much touched by his role as a pastor."

Zubik also said the Mass inside St. Patrick's was a special moment for him.

"We had wonderful, wonderful seats in the sanctuary, almost within touching distance of the Holy Father," he said. "It was one of those moments where my eyes welled up with tears as I thought, 'It doesn't get any better than this.'"

On Sunday, the Pope is set to visit Ground Zero and say Mass at Yankee Stadium.
