Local Students Make Documentary About Papal Visit

NEW YORK (KDKA) ― Among all the reporters covering Pope Benedict XVI's historic visit to the United States are several aspiring journalists from Duquesne University.

They are making an hour-long documentary of his U.S. visit.

"We actually got to go out and do a real story with real issues," said Amy Nittinger. "It's a great opportunity."

Professor Dennis Woytek said he is still trying to figure out how he and his students got credentials to so many events.

"Some of the credentials that we received were more than some of the CNN people got, and we're very happy with that," he said. "We don't know if someone pulled strings or if it just happened to be that we got there first."

The students say they have already attended the Mass at Nationals Park on the first leg of the Pope's visit in Washington D.C.

Some of the students say that this is more than just an assignment.

"It was breathtaking," said student Jessica Looman. "Even though he flashed by, I was still in shock, I was like, 'Wow, he's only 10 feet from us."
