As Pope Benedict XVI makes his first trip to the United States, Pittsburgh's Bishop David Zubik says he plans on being there.
"For me, it is really exciting because there's something to be said for when the Pope comes to the United States," said Bishop Zubik, of the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese.
KDKA's David Highfield talked with Bishop Zubik about the Pope's upcoming visit.
Bishop Zubik says he hasn't seen Pope Benedict XVI since he became Bishop of the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese.
"It'll be my first time meeting him after I've come back," he told KDKA. "I'll thank him for the appointment and for the trust that he placed in me."
The Bishop says he plans on telling the Pontiff, as he put it, the truth about Pittsburgh.
"We have a very lively faith and that people are very loving of him and very supportive of him," he added.
Bishop Zubik says that he believes Americans may be surprised by the Pope's visit.
"It's going to be great for people to see Pope Benedict up close because I think he's been terribly misunderstood," Bishop Zubik said.
He says the Pope isn't about people becoming rigid in their faith. Instead, he says Pope Benedict demonstrates the tender love of a father.
"He almost rivets his attention the person to whom he is speaking," he said.
But just as we may be surprised by what we see, Bishop Zubik says he expects the Pontiff will also see something he may not anticipate.
"Maybe he'll find that the United States is a lot more spiritual than the Europeans will give us credit for," he told KDKA.
Stay with KDKA for much more on Pope Benedict XVI's visit to America.
