West Virginia Beats Marshall 24-7

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (KDKA/AP) ― West Virginia overcame an early injury to starting quarterback Jarrett Brown to defeat Marshall 24-7.

Brown appeared to take a helmet-to-helmet hit from Marshall's Ashton Hall and Ahmed Shakoor. Brown fumbled as he was going down and Marshall's DeQuan Bembry recovered at the Herd 36.

Brown remained on the ground for a few minutes, then left the field under his own power, covered himself in a jacket and sat on the bench with his helmet off.

Backup quarterback Geno Smith stepped in and went 15-for-21 for 147 yards in a touchdown.

However, Noel Devine stole the show by rushing for 103 yards and scoring a pair of touchdowns in the game.

The first was a 14-yard run and the second was good for nine yards.

West Virginia scored 17 points off Marshall mistakes and held an opponent scoreless after halftime for the second time this season.

Marshall's Darius Marshall was held to 82 rushing yards, 64 below his average.
