Pitt Falls 70-61 In Loss To South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (KDKA/AP) ― The Pitt Panthers suffered another upset with a 70-61 loss at the hands of South Florida Sunday afternoon.

Pitt has dropped three of four conference games after starting 5-0 in the league and working its way into the Top 10.

The Panthers' Gilbert Brown scored a career-high 25.

But South Florida's Dominique Jones made 10 of 20 shots from the field and 14 of 17 free throws.

USF nearly squandered a 14-point lead down the stretch, but held on by making 11 of 14 free throws in the final three minutes.

The Panthers hurt themselves by missing five free throws after pulling within 54-50 with 5:33 remaining.

The Panthers head to Morgantown next for a showdown with the WVU Mountaineers on Feb. 3.
