Penn State Defeats Illinois, 35-17

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (KDKA/AP) ― After blowing a 10 point lead at home last week to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Joe Paterno and his Nittany Lions made a road trip to Illinois looking for that first Big Ten conference win.

And with Evan Royster and Stephon Green each running for more than 100 yards and Darryl Clark adding a pair of rushing touchdowns, Penn State came out on top 35-17.

Penn State relied on its ground game to bounce back from last week's upset against Iowa, battering Illinois with 338 yards rushing.

Illinois was led by quarterback Juice Williams' 20-for-36 passing for 263 yards. He also ran for a score.

Green had 120 yards on 13 carries and Royster added 105 on 17, while Illinois receiver Arrelious Benn had five catches for 96 yards.

Next weekend, the Nittany Lions take on Eastern Illinois.
