PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A high wind warning issued this afternoon by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh remains in effect for several parts of our area.

The high wind warning is in effect through 6 p.m. for Fayette, Indiana and Westmoreland counties as well as Garrett County in Maryland and 8 p.m. for Cambria and Somerset counties.

A low pressure system is approaching the region this afternoon with strengthening southeast winds ahead of it.

The strongest winds will be in the downslope areas just to the west of the ridges with wind gusts around 60 mph expected.

A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring.

Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
