Ross Police Refute Newlyweds' Version Of Events

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― Ross Township Police are refuting the story told by a couple charged in a brawl on their wedding reception night.

New witnesses have been questioned by police in the case of Dr. David and Christa Wielechowski - the newlyweds charged with getting into a fight with some people at the Holiday Inn who believed Christa had been karate kicked by her husband.

The Wielechowski's admitted they were drinking and playing around when they got into the brawl with several hotel guests.

They say police never talked to the night of the brawl. Sgt. Ben Dripps said the Wielechowski's were too intoxicated that night, they were combative and beligerent, and they reportedly even fought with paramedics who were there, sources tell KDKA's Ralph Iannotti.

What sparked the fight to begin with?

Sgt. Dripps said when the Wielechowski's were going at it, the mother of a groom in another room heard the commotion and asked if Christa was OK. That's when, according to police, David shoved the older woman, prompting that second groom to defend both his own mother and Christa.

The Wielechowski's were in fact pushed into an elevator because, according to Dripps, it was the other couple's wedding night and they wanted to enjoy it without the intoxicated and out-of-control Wielechowski's screaming and fighting outside the door of their hotel room.

There were three Ross Township Police officers at the Holiday Inn the night of the brawl. None were rookies and two of them had 25 years of experience each.

Sgt. Dripps tells KDKA it's possible charges against the Wielechowski's could be upgraded to aggravated assault because one of the men kicked by the bridegroom may require surgery.
