Storms Leave Behind Damage Across Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Severe storms ripped through the area Sunday afternoon leaving behind damage to homes and vehicles and knocking down trees.

The intense line of thunderstorms, including heavy rain, high winds and hail, pushed through around 1:30 p.m.

There were numerous reports of damage following the storm, especially in places around Edgewood, Uniontown and parts of western Westmoreland County.

A tree in Edgewood came down into two homes.

"I heard this sound that sounded like thunder, all the sudden my house started shaking and it was a tree, a big tree," says Sue Phillips, of Edgewood. "I'm feeling lucky cause no one got hurt. There's a hole in the bedroom wall."

Officials say power to part of Lincoln Avenue in Edgewood went down with the tree and the lights will probably be out for a while.

Crews say they are bringing in a heavy lift crane to remove the tree.

Across the area, there were scattered power outages.

Duquesne Light reports all of its customers now have power restored.

Allegheny Power has about 3,000 customers without power, mostly in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties.
