Severe Weather Rocks Parts Of Area Tuesday Evening

(KDKA) Stormy weather rocked parts of the region last night, especially areas to the north of the city of Pittsburgh.

Tornado warnings were issued on Tuesday evening for parts of Lawrence, Beaver and Butler counties as the storm made its way through.

Some say they spotted what appeared to be funnel clouds forming as the storm moved across the area between 8 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

"Butler County, two tornado warnings were issued by the Weather Service, they were both Doppler indicated," explained KDKA Meteorologist Dennis Bowman. "The National Weather Service is saying flatly that the funnel clouds did not touch down, they stayed aloft, but there were obviously some gusty winds that brought some trees down

The intense weather sent many people running to find shelter. Also, there were reports of several downed trees in the New Castle area as the storm passed through.

A group of men, who were fishing in Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park, say the storms forced them to run for cover.

"All of sudden it just hit really bad and it was raining and really windy and everything," said one of the men, Chad Beck. "There was a little bathroom that was up a distance and we left all our fishing gear there, and it's gone now, and we ran to the bathroom and hid in there."

Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries.
