Frigid Temperatures Move Into Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Bitterly cold temperatures have arrived in Pittsburgh and everyone across the area is feeling the deep freeze.

KDKA Meteorologist Dennis Bowman says some of the roughest winter weather we've seen in quite awhile is here for a the next couple of days. Another fast-moving storm system is approaching the area.

Bowman says we'll see snow return for the afternoon, accumulating to one to three inches across the area by Thursday morning.

Temperatures will be very cold. Today's high will be near 18 with a low tonight near 10. Also, wind chills during this time will hover near zero a good deal of the time.

Tonight and Thursday, wind chills will range from zero to minus seven with Thursday's actual high temperature near 13. By Thursday night, the wind chill will be in the minus 10 to minus 20 range with actual lows in the zero to minus three category for Friday morning, Bowman reports.

Friday's high will be in the single digits at about seven degrees in Pittsburgh.

However, forecasters say they do expect things to warm up a little bit for the weekend, as temperatures go into the 20s.

Experts are advising those heading outside to cover up to avoid the risk of frostbite and hypothermia.

Also, experts say it's important to prepare your home and car. Some tips include having an up-to-date oil change and a battery in good condition in your car and changing the filter in you furnace in your home.
