Deliberations Continue In Police Shooting Of Boy

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ― A federal court jury in Pittsburgh continue to deliberating whether state police were justified in shooting an unarmed 12-year-old boy who was running from a stolen vehicle.

The jury began deliberating Thursday, and continued Friday without a verdict before breaking for the weekend.

The jury spent nearly two weeks hearing evidence in the wrongful death suit brought by the father of Michael Ellerbe.

Ellerbe was fatally shot in the back on Christmas Eve 2002 in Uniontown.

A defense attorney says a trooper shot Ellerbe only because the trooper thought Ellerbe fired at another trooper.

But Ellerbe's family says the troopers are lying and had no reason to fire at Ellerbe.
