New Details About Man Who Died After Being Tased

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― New details are emerging about a man who died after he was tased by police in Swissvale.

A report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says Andre Thomas had a confrontation with police in New Kensington a few months ago.

According to police, in that incident, back in April with the New Kensington Police, Thomas was tased as well.

Thomas has had several run-ins with police but that specific incident back in New Kensington was very similar to the one that happened on August 5 in Swissvale on the day that Thomas died.

New Kensington Police describe Thomas' behavior back on April 4 as bizarre and combative when he entered a restaurant on Freeport Street claiming someone was trying to kill him and asking for help.

He then went to the Main Street Deli where he was also behaving erratically.

Thomas was doing remarkably similar things on August 5 when Swissvale Police tased him.

Information from police records dating back to 1992 showed that Thomas had a history of drug charges, reckless endangerment, public drunkenness and drunk driving.

An attorney for Thomas' family is currently investigating Thomas' death.

They are trying to determine whether or not police used excessive force when they tased him on August 5.
