Mother Charged In Tarentum Blaze

TARENTUM (KDKA) ― A woman has been charged after a fire broke out at a home in Tarentum that sent her and two children to the hospital early Monday morning.

According to police, Terra Lynn, 36, set the fire in an attempt to kill herself and her two children.

According to officials at the scene, the call for the fire came in shortly after midnight at a duplex home in the 1100-block of Bakerstown Road.

"It was very evident from the onset that there was gasoline literally and intentionally poured throughout the building," Allegheny County Fire Marshal Bob Full said.

"I can't imagine being a parent myself, being so desperate that you would take your own children's lives in this particular case," Full added. "The actual motivation and so forth – I find that there can be no possible excuse to want to do this."

According to the affidavit, Lynn had second thoughts after setting the fire. A neighbor who shares the duplex said she heard Lynn shouting, "What have I done?" and "I don't want to lose my kids!"

The children are alive thanks to the efforts of first responders.

"When I gained entry into the structure, I looked at the stairs, had a heavy fire on the stairwell where the people were trapped at, I grabbed the two kids and the mother," Michael Remper, from Summit Hose Company, said.

Lynn is facing a host of charges including: endangering the welfare of children, arson and recklessly endangering another person.

Lynn will be arraigned Tuesday at 9 p.m. and is being held on $75,000 bond.
