3 Fires Under Investigation In Friendship

FRIENDSHIP (KDKA) ― A Pittsburgh neighborhood is on alert after three suspicious fires over the weekend.

Officials say someone went through Friendship, setting fire to anything they could find to burn.

A cloth awning was set on fire at a home in the 5200-block of Friendship Avenue at about 2:40 a.m. It spread quickly, melting the porch furniture.

"And while the firemen were at that fire, a neighbor alerted them to another fire around the corner," Mike Burns, an arson investigator, said.

The second happened in the 300-block of South Pacific where someone burned leaves and garbage.

The fire spread to the front porch, but no one inside was hurt. There was a family of four at home at the time.

The third fire happened on Saturday when Halloween decorations were set ablaze in the 200-block of South Aiken Avenue.

"We just want neighbors to be on the lookout for any suspicious persons walking around late at night," Burns said. "If you hear something outside, just don't brush it off. Take a look outside to see if there is anything going on outside or anyone is doing any vandalism."
