Student Gets Trapped After Fall From Oakland Roof
OAKLAND (KDKA) ―
A college student is facing some tough questions from Pittsburgh police today after he fell from a rooftop became trapped and set off a large search to find him.
Officials say the 18-year-old student was not hurt when he fell off the Oakland roof in the 3000-block of Forbes Avenue.
According to police, after falling the man used his cell phone to call 911 for help. He told them he was trapped, but he didn't know where he was. That's when his phone died, authorities add.
"911 received a call from a male who said that he had fallen in a ditch and he was surrounded by some high walls and he didn't know where he was at," Pittsburgh Police Commander Tom Stangrecki.
Eventually, some employees at a nearby drug store heard the man's screams for help and located him.
"I heard somebody screaming while I was in there. I went to go see who it was," said witness Tim Schwartz. "I went up on our roof, and finally went up on the fuel and photo roof and found a kid in the hole between the two buildings."
Police say that they may file charges in the case.
