Teens Learn Safe Driving Skills At Local Racetrack

BIG BEAVER BOROUGH (KDKA) ― A group of local high school students went to a racetrack to learn about driving safely.

The Fatal Awareness Conference gave students from Beaver and Lawrence counties a hands-on experience as they learned how to become better drivers.

The session was held at BeaveRun MotorSports Complex in Big Beaver Borough.

Part of the training focused on how to prevent an accident.

"What we often don't teach our kids is how to avoid the crashes," Randall McPherson, an instructor, said. "We don't take them out at any speed and slam on the brakes and show them what's going to happen when the car goes into a skid or start sliding."

One of the demonstrations required students to put on goggles which simulated drunken driving at night.

Local police also simulated a DUI checkpoint.
