Week 12: Steelers Vs. Ravens Preview

By: Casey Shea
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Pittsburgh Steelers (6-4) will take on the Baltimore Ravens (5-5) Sunday on the road, but will not have Ben Roethlisberger as the signal caller.

An announcement came out on Saturday that Big Ben would not start against the Ravens and would be listed as the third option at the quarterback position for the game.

Getting the start on Sunday night will be second-year pro Dennis Dixon, who has only thrown one pass in his career.

Dixon was a fifth-round pick in 2008 out of Oregon.

His backup will be newly signed and former Pitt star Tyler Palko.

Earlier in the week, head coach Mike Tomlin said that he expected Roethlisberger to play, but after having headaches following practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the decision was made to keep him out of the lineup.

The Steelers enter tonight's game having lost their last two games to Cincinnati and Kansas City.

They are second in the division and only one game ahead of the Ravens, which makes tonight's game that much more important.

Pittsburgh leads the all-time series with the Ravens 16-10, including a regular season sweep a year ago.

On top of that, the Steelers dropped the Ravens for a third time in the AFC Championship game by a score of 23-14.

On the road against the Ravens, the Steelers are only 7-6.

Baltimore lost a hard fought game 17-15 against the undefeated Indianapolis Colts in Week 11 after blanking the Cleveland Brown 16-0 in Week 10.

The Ravens haven't been able to sustain momentum since starting the season 3-0.

They followed those three wins with three consecutive losses and have alternated wins and losses every week since.

Baltimore has been close in every game with the biggest loss only being 10 points.
