Classmates Mourn Shadyside Stabbing Victim

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A man is facing homicide charges today following a deadly stabbing on Thursday night at an apartment building in Shadyside.

Investigators say a 18-year-old woman, identified as Lisa Maas, of Erie, was found stabbed to death just before 9 p.m. inside her apartment in the 4700-block of Centre Avenue.

Pittsburgh police say they have arrested 38-year-old Terrence Andrews. He is now facing criminal homicide charges.

Authorities report that they were called to the apartment building when neighbors reported hearing a disturbance.

"The suspect apparently had an encounter with the victim, and, apparently, he was upset over that encounter and had made plans to wait until she got home," said Cmdr. Thomas Stangrecki, of the Pittsburgh Police. "When she did arrive home he knocked on her apartment door, once she had opened up the door, he began attacking her."

Police say Maas tried to defend herself, and Andrews suffered a stab wound.

According to police, a knife and scissors were recovered from Andrews' pockets at the scene.

Officials say Andrews was taken to the hospital where he is under police guard. He will be taken to the Allegheny County Jail once he is released from the hospital.

Meanwhile, the people who knew Maas' are trying to deal with the loss.

"Lisa was a nice girl. She was fun-loving. She was into her schooling. She'll be missed," said one of Maas' neighbors. "I could never imagine a couple doors from my apartment. It was scary, couldn't sleep last night."

Maas was also a student at the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute. They released a statement earlier today.

"We are saddened by the loss. Lisa was loved and respected by students and faculty. She showed great promise as an HRM student at the Pennsylvania Culinary and she will be missed."
