Family, Friends Say Goodbye To Local Soldier

(KDKA) Family and friends said a final goodbye today to a local soldier who died while serving in Iraq.

Officials say Staff Sergeant Ryan Maseth, 22, died from cardiac arrest after an accidental electrical shock on Jan. 2 in Baghdad.

His father says that he was told Maseth was electrocuted while in the shower.

A service was held this morning at Memorial Park Church.

Friends described Maseth, a Shaler High School graduate, as a kind and adventurous person.

"No matter what you did he'd always bring a smile to your face even in times like these," said one of Maseth's friends. "He was a great guy."

Also, members of the Patriot Guard were invited to the service by the family.

"We do it to honor the fallen hero and honor his family and to pay tribute for what they're doing for us so that we have our freedoms," said one Patriot Guard member.

Maseth was buried at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Washington County.
