Fans of "Guiding Light" got a chance to meet their favorite stars at a final farewell to the show over the weekend.
The "So Long Springfield" event was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at the Pittsburgh International Airport.
The show's stars say Pittsburgh was the perfect city for their farewell party.
"Pittsburgh is one of the great "Guiding Light" cities. I mean, we are loved here. We can't walk down the streets. We're like superstars in this town, so of course we love Pittsburgh and the Steelers," actor Ron Raines, who played Alan Spaulding said.
Fans didn't disappoint as they poured into the event to share their memorable moments with the stars and say goodbye to the longest running television drama of all time.
"I definitely grew up with the characters. I watched all of them grow up with me. I think it also helped my grandma and I to bond. We really grew closer through the show," Rachel Lewis said.
"We provide a comfort level for them. A place where they can go relax and just kinda get away from it all. This is what it's all about. We've been in their homes for all these years and without the fans we're nowhere," actor Frank Dicopoulos who played Frank Cooper said.
Fans of the show were able to meet with the actors, who portrayed their favorite characters and get their pictures taken as well as get some autographs.
"It's the first time i've had to meet them. There's a lot of people who travel to every city. I'm so happy they picked Pittsburgh. They've said it from their heart and I believe them that they just love Pittsburgh," Beth Kovalchick said.
The "Guiding Light" cast knows that Pittsburgh fans are possibly the show's most loyal fan base in the country and this up-close and personal time is also their chance to say thank you.
"This turnout is amazing. Having all these people come out to see us and say goodbye to us, it's very touching because I know that they are in a lot of pain and disappointment and if we can bring a little joy in their life once more because they've certainly brought a lot of joy in our life we're thrilled to be here," Raines said.
Some of the stars even played to the crowd to drum up support to get the show back on television.
"Pittsburgh is number one for "Guiding Light and KDKA and Pittsburgh have been so awesome for our show. I mean, look how many people love "Guiding Light." Come on, this show needs to go back on the air wouldn't you say," Dicopoulos said.
