Rock salt is one option you can use to help melt the snow and ice on your driveways and sidewalks.

All the recent snow means that you have to clear your sidewalks and driveways, but which kind of salt works best to melt the snow and ice?
While you may have had years of experience doing such a task, there may be a better way to do it.
The snow can be a beautiful thing, but it can also mean a lot of hard work. Workers at local stores recommend that you have some items available at your home for snow removal, including a shovel and salt.
Everyone seems to prefer a different method when trying to clear up the space.
"We are clearing some spots. Getting the snow out of the way so it doesn't accumulate and pile up, throw a lot of salt and hopefully melt what's here and melt what's to come," Chris Myers said.
After speaking with a local store owner, KDKA found out that calcium chloride is good for some concrete surfaces, but different products work better depending on the temperature:
- Magnesium chloride takes you down to minus 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Potassium chloride takes you down to minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Sodium chloride is the least expensive and takes you down to about minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit.
Most snow and ice melt will run you from $5 to around $25.
