Dog Recovering After Being Fed Shredded Glass

CONNELLSVILLE (KDKA) ― Humane officials in Fayette County are trying to figure out why someone would feed shredded glass to a dog.

In fact, the Humane Society is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

In Connellsville, Mary Ann Stull says her dog, Scooter, is now recovering after he was given shredded glass mixed with dog food, or some meat last month. At the time, he was outside of his kennel and his owners weren't home.

Veterinarian Dr. John O'Laughlin, of Mt. Pleasant, who is treating the animal, says Scooter had a two inch cut in his mouth and his lung collapsed after he ate the glass. But, the dog is now recovering nicely.

"If Scooter was a cat, seven of his lives would be gone, he is running on borrowed time," Dr. O'Laughlin said.

The vet tells us that the person who gave the dog the glass knew exactly what he was doing.

"This was intentional. Usually when a dog eats a piece of glass, you'll see a laceration on the mouth, or a laceration elsewhere. No, they knew exactly what they were doing, when they were doing this," Dr. O'Laughlin said. "This is one case that you're going to remember, and you don't want to remember this, but he's a good dog, nice owners. It's a wrong situation."

Anyone with information in the case is being asked to call the Fayette County SPCA.
