Severe Weather Creates Road Closures Across Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The severe weather Wednesday has caused plenty of closures and detours around Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas today.

PennDOT officials say that Washington Boulevard between Frankstown Avenue and Allegheny River Boulevard remains closed in both directions.

There is a sinkhole there that is creating problems. PennDOT says the road will remain closed for some time as extensive repairs continue. But crews will try to reopen the road to one lane in each direction as soon as possible.

City of Pittsburgh officials say Swinburne Street from Greenfield Avenue to Parkview Street is also closed.

Public Works crews continue work to remove trees and debris from road across the area.

Flooding is also causing some lane restrictions and a closure.

Officials say there are some restrictions going in both directions on Long Run Road between Old Long Run Road in McKeesport and Lincoln Way in White Oak.

And Tri-Boro/Watkins Avenue has now been fully reopened between Thompson Street in Turtle Creek and McGinnis Avenue in Pitcairn.

PennDOT also says drivers should be prepared to use their headlights while traveling in the Fort Pitt Tunnels. They say the power is out inside the tunnels and to use extra caution.

Meanwhile, Port Authority officials have reopened the East Busway this morning.

The severe weather caused some flooding and damage. Officials say it was reopened around 3 a.m. after some clean-up was completed.

Also, the Mon Wharf remains open today. Officials say the rains did cause the river waters to rise, but not enough to close the parking lot.
