Mother & Daughter Reunited After Years Apart

MT. LEBANON (KDKA) ― It was a very special holiday gift for a long-separated mother and daughter who were brought together today with the help of friends and local officials.

Both Yolanda Massella and her daughter, Jacquie Naughton, suffer from muscular dystrophy.

After three years apart, Massella and Naughton were reunited today for Christmas.

"I'm overwhelmed and overjoyed," said Naughton. "It's one of the best Christmases I've ever had."

While Massella is bedridden, her daughter is in a wheelchair, unable to manage the steps of her home.

Family friend, Cathy Lydic, and the officials with Mt. Lebanon Public Safety organized the reunion for the pair, who say they frequently talk over the phone.

"You are always so appreciative with the little things in life," said Lydic. "It makes my heart sing to help you."

Massella was touched by the seeing her daughter again after so long.

"Words could never express how I feel," she said. "Just talking to her on the phone and not seeing her - she's as beautiful as ever and hasn't changed a bit."

Massella and Naughton had three hours to visit and open gifts, but they say that the gift of life and love is their Christmas wish come true.
