Onorato Wants Union To Review Fact-Finder's Report

Union President 'Confident' In Decision To Reject Report

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― For now, the Port Authority buses and trolleys continue to run, but Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato says it's time to take a fact-finder's report directly to the rank and file members of the driver's union to see if the standoff between management and the union can be resolved.

"If he takes the fact-finder report to the rank and file, votes on it and they approve it, we have a deal today," Onorato said. "Money gets released and we have a deal."

"I am very confident that I am representing their positions very well and the majority of my members do support the decision that we made to reject the fact-finding report," Amalgamated Transit Union President Patrick McMahon said.

The "money" is the money from the drink tax, which Onorato says only helps Port Authority – it doesn't save it. And he says he won't be drawn into the actual negotiation process, but the union says it's too late for that now. He's already put himself in the middle.

While both sides go back and forth, riders continue to wait for a resolution. So far, no new negotiation sessions have been scheduled.
