Young Boy Apparently Drowns In Pool

PERRY TWP. (KDKA) ― An investigation is underway after a young child apparently drowned.

The Washington County Coroner reports that 2-year-old Donovan Barksdale, of Belle Vernon, wandered away from a church picnic at First Christian Church in Perry Township, Fayette County.

The child was found unresponsive in a pool located within 100 yards of the church shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday.

Someone started CPR on Barksdale before he was rushed to Mon Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

While officials believe the boy may have drowned, the official manner and cause of death have not been determined.

Pennsylvania State Police in Belle Vernon are handling the investigation.
