Suspect Charged After Chase In Westmoreland Co.

JEANETTE (KDKA) ― Three Jeannette police officers were injured Thursday night after a suspect led them on a high speed chase in Westmoreland County.

Officials say two police cars were also damaged.

It all began around 2:00 a.m. outside of Franco's Bar in Jeannette.

According to police, 34-year-old Ralph Anderson is accused of trying to steal something out of a woman's car. He reportedly tried to grab her neck when she confronted him. Another man then confronted Anderson and he fled.

The female victim was talking to police when she noticed Anderson drive past the bar, officials said. Police tried to initiate a traffic stop but Anderson took off.

He led police on a 38-minute high speed chase that eventually ended near Kenny Ross in North Huntingdon.

One police officer hit a pole head-on during the chase.

Another car with two police officers inside was hit by the suspect's car. All three officers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released.

The suspect was taken into custody and will be charged with theft, robbery, fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault on a police officer, driving under the influence and numerous traffic violations.

Police say Anderson was also wanted on charges out of Virginia Beach, Va., where he was on probation for burglary, credit card theft and drug charges.
