Playoff Platters, Foods Mean Big Business

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Steelers' fans know a lot of preparation goes into planning a tailgate or game-watching party.

But if you haven't made your plans for this Sunday's game, you better get started.

The Steeler Nation is definitely serious about their football and their tailgating.

"I think they take it more serious than the game," said Ted Gabig, of Armstrong's Express. "The pre-game -- that's the whole thing setting up for the game."

During this play-off run restaurants that cater to the die-hard black and gold, like Armstrong's Express in Bridgeville, are bombarded with take-out orders.

"You can't get enough wings this time of year," said Gabig. "All the chicken, all the finger foods… anything you can have on the run."

Also seeing huge business with these two playoff games at home is Giant Eagle.

It's a great place for Steelers' fans who like one-stop shopping.

Whether it's ordering ahead for the playoff party platters to the victory cake or last minute finger-foods, you can even pick up a team jersey or just one more terrible towel.

"All you need to do is come in an hour before the game and you can see what they do," said Judy Dodd, a Corporate Nutritionist for Giant Eagle. "You have the opportunity to get just about anything you need for an instant party. And we make it easy for them because it's within all price ranges but it's also within health needs."

If the Steelers get to the Super Bowl, businesses like Giant Eagle compare it to Christmas and Armstrong's, which is normally closed on Sundays won't be.

They know fans will be counting on them.

"We will be open Super Bowl Sunday should we get that far," said Gabig. "We will be open. We'll probably do tremendous business."
