PennDot To Lift Route 28 North Lane Restrictions

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Two major road projects are set to wrap up tomorrow, in time for the Thanksgiving travel rush.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman Jim Struzzi tells KDKA that lane restrictions along a stretch of Route 28 are expected to end by tomorrow afternoon.
The work, which encompasses several miles north of the Etna interchange, started this summer when PennDOT closed a bridge that carries the northbound lanes of Route 28 over Kittanning Pike for reconstruction. The road reopened to a single lane in October, but Struzzi says crews will likely have all lanes open by the afternoon rush hour. The project is part of a $22.5 million project to rebuild Route 28 in the Etna and Sharpsburg areas.
Meanwhile, a community celebration is planned to mark the opening of new bridge in Kennedy Township. The $6.75 million Forest Grove Road Bridge over Interstate 79 will open tomorrow, replacing an older span that closed in February. The bridge was expected to open a month ago, but the project had been beset by construction-related delays.
