North Park was the site of the 9th Annual "Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer" Sunday.
Yvonne Zanos, KDKA's consumer reporter and an ovarian cancer survivor, emceed the opening ceremony and the walk started at 10 a.m.
Event organizers expected more than 2,500 participants, including more than 130 ovarian cancer survivors.
"NOCC's 'Break the Silence' campaign was created specifically to help generate ovarian cancer awareness on both a local and national level, and regional walks such as this play a significant role in NOCC's efforts," Barbara Smith, Pittsburgh chapter president said.
All proceeds from the walk will fund education, awareness and quality of life programs on both a local and national level.
In addition to the walk, there were plenty of other activities in the park including a survivors' tent with a special continental breakfast and free raffle, a children's activity tent, refreshments, health information station, auctions and raffles.
There was also entertainment including jugglers, balloon artists and mascots and a Memory Quilt and Wall of Courage for mementos.
