1 Year Later, Murder Victim's Family Seeks Closure

BRACKENRIDGE (KDKA) ― It's been almost a year to the day since a Brackenridge mother was murdered.

While police continue to search for her killer, the woman's family looks for closure.

Kelly Nicole Smith's body was found in Chartiers Run on June 14, 2007.

Two months later, the Westmoreland County Coroner ruled her death a homicide and, now a year later, still no closure for the victim's family.

"It's just been really hard, with Christmas, Mother's Day," said Patrick Godfrey, the victim's brother.

For Godfrey and his family, the tragedy still haunts them.

At the time of her death, Kelly was separated from her husband, Jason Smith, and she was living with her boyfriend, Chad Stroup.

He has since moved out of state.

Both men have been questioned by police, but, no one has been charged in the case.

Kelly is survived by her parents, brother, and her 5-year old son, Mason, who wants to know what happened to his mom, and where she went.

"We sit down, and talk to him," said Godfrey. "He'll ask questions about his mom -- things she liked, and stuff like that."

In the hope of finding her killer, Kelly's family has offered a $10,000 reward.

"As much as what we're going through this everyday, this person who did this has to be living with that as well," said Godfrey. "I'm just asking please come forward, and stop running, and let's put this to an end. Let's get on with everything. If this person cared for her at all, she deserves this kind of closure."

While Smith's death was ruled a homicide, exactly how she died has never been revealed.
