ME: Slug From Dog Matches Mt. Oliver Suspect's Gun

PITTSBURGH (AP) ― The Allegheny County Medical Examiner says tests linked a handgun found when a man was shot dead by police to a slug taken from a dead police dog.

Dr. Karl Williams says other test results in the death of 19-year-old Justin Jackson are pending.

Pittsburgh police say Jackson used a stolen handgun to fatally shoot a police dog before he was shot and killed by the dog's handler on May 6.

Williams says other evidence shows Jackson fired the gun at least once from inside the pocket of his outer garment.

Chief Nate Harper says police saw Jackson shooting a .357 Magnum and returned fire. Harper says police didn't realize Jackson shot the dog until after police shot Jackson.

Officers involved in the shooting remain on paid leave.
