"Miracle Field" Coming To Murrysville Area

MURRYSVILLE (KDKA) ― A new baseball field in Murrysville will be unlike any other field in the area.

The field being planned will be a miracle field - meaning it will have a special turf surface specifically made for people with disabilities.

The surface will be tough enough to accommodate wheelchairs, but soft enough so children don't get hurt if they fall on it.

The nearest miracle field is currently in Morgantown, W.Va.

The field will be built by the Rotary Club of Murrysville-Export, the Murrysville Parks Department and the Miracle League of Western Pennsylvania.

The field has been in the works for a few years, but design plans were just just recently completed.

Now, it's in the fund raising stage.

The Rotary Club has hired a professional fund raising company to raise the money.

The club wants to raise $830,000 before ground is broken.

They are hoping that will happen in summer 2009.

The field will enable the Murrysville Recreation Department to offer a unique set of activities to people with disabilities.

It's also expected to attract groups from across the state into the area for tournaments, which would help the local economy.

If you want to help make the field a reality, you can make donations through the Rotary Club of Murrysville-Export.
