Local School Bus Company Raided By State Police

FINDLAY TWP. (KDKA) ― A school bus company that serves several local school districts has been raided by state police.

The reason: the bus company may be guilty of illegally recording conversations on their buses.

Many school buses have video cameras that capture dramatic footage of students fighting and bus accidents.

In this instance, the camera may not have just been recording video but also audio.

In Pennsylvania, it is illegal to record someone's conversation without their permission.

The cameras, with microphones, were inside buses owned by the Laidlaw Company.

The buses served the McKeesport and West Midland School Districts.

All the cameras have been removed by the State Police.

The issue first came to light when a driver complained about driving a bus with too many students on board.

The driver was suspended and the tape was reviewed.

That's when the driver learned his conversation may have been illegally recorded.

There's been no comment from the bus company.

The school districts referred KDKA Investigator Paul Martino to their lawyer who says they are cooperating with the investigation.
