Director, Couple Scuffle At Library Over Book

GREENSBURG (KDKA) ― Police in Westmoreland County say they are searching for a couple who tried to steal a book from a local library and ended up attacking the library director in the process.

Investigators say the couple, identified as David and Jennifer Cook, tried to take the Christmas-themed book from the Greensburg-Hempfield Area Library, but when they tried to leave, the library's security system went off.

The library director, Cesare Muccari, said he tried to stall the couple until police could get there, but they still tried to run off.

"What's happening is that they're running out and they're dragging me out because I'm trying to hold onto them," said Muccari. "And that's when I fell and hit my head. That's when blood started gushing out."

Muccari said he is fine now, but the injury to his head required several stitches.

Police have issued arrest warrants for the couple and they are hoping anyone with information will come forward.
