LIBERTY BOROUGH (KDKA) ― A 17-year-old girl has filed a federal lawsuit against two local police officers, alleging that they sent her explicit text messages.

The federal lawsuit could mean big trouble for two Liberty Borough police officers, Liberty Borough Police Department and the South Allegheny School District.

The suit alleges that the police officers continued to sexually harass the 17-year-old. It also claims that once the 17-year-old complained to school officials and police officials, they did nothing about it.

The two Liberty Borough police officers - 27-year-old Nick Caito and 31-year-old Jay Legin - are accused of sending the girl text messages. Most of them were vulgar and sexually-explicit.

"You shouldn't need to train police officers that you don't text message obscene messages to a 16, 17-year-old, but the borough has an obligation to provide that training and they didn't do it here, " Samuel Cordes, the plaintiff's attorney, said.

Officer Caito is accused of sending the girl a Valentine's Day message: "Did you get a gift today? It's from me. I can't sign my name to it cause of work reasons."

Officer Legin is accused of texting this message: "I think you're really cute. Just think of me kissing down your neck."

When the girl's father saw this, he flipped out.

KDKA's Paul Martino attempted to reach an attorney for the school district, but he did not return the phone call. He also tried to reach the Liberty Borough Police Chief but was unable to get into contact with him.
