Crews Work To Clear Elizabeth Landslide

ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― A large landslide is continuing to cause problems in Elizabeth Township.

The slide is threatening a garage and causing travel problems for people who use Smithfield Street.

First, residents lost power due to that landslide yesterday.

The power has now been restored, but the road is still closed.

Heavy rains and soft ground caused the hillside to move.

The landslide left the garage with little or no support.

Within a few hours, dirt and trees were blocking the road.

Smithfield Street has been closed since about 5:00 p.m. Sunday.

There is still a question about when or if the road will reopen because of the remaining debris that remains on the hillside.

An engineer will decide when it is safe to open the road.
