Explosion At Homewood Rowhouse Under Investigation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Officials are investigating following an explosion at a rowhouse in Homewood this afternoon.

The incident happened around 2:15 p.m. at a vacant home in the 4700-block of Frankstown Avenue.

Of the four row houses, three of them were unoccupied.

Neighbors as well as customers in a nearby bar reported hearing a loud explosion.

"It sounded like a bomb went off, that's all," said neighbor Charlie Dwyer, who was moved quickly out of his home. "I went to the door and looked out, and there was glass all over the place."

According to officials, the exact cause of the blast is not yet known, but it is believed to be related to a gas line problem.

"The preliminary investigation appeared to be a gas leak," said Chief Keith Drudy, of the Pittsburgh Fire Department. "We had a high meter reading of gas, and your nose could tell you it was gas."

No injures were reported.

Crews were called to the scene immediately to make repairs.
