Search Is On For Attempted Homicide Suspect

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Pittsburgh Police spent most of the evening trying to track down an attempted homicide suspect.

They are on the lookout for 21 year-old Calvin Cane.

KDKA's Kym Gable reports they almost had him until he crashed his vehicle and took off on foot.

It started Tuesday evening in an alley off Lombard Street in the Hill District.

Police say Cane ran into a wall, ditched the SUV he was driving and took off down the hill toward Fifth Avenue.

Cane, who is from the Webster Avenue area of the Hill, is wanted in the February shooting of a man in Penn Hills.

Police spent some time in his neighborhood asking those who know him to encourage cane to turn himself in.

Then for a couple of hours, officers blocked off various streets along Fifth Avenue in an effort to try to corner him but they were unsuccessful.

Canine units were also brought in to help in the search.

Finally, police towed the vehicle cane was allegedly driving.

Police say when they do catch him, Cane will face charges of fleeing and eluding in addition to the attempted homicide charges.

Police do still believe Cane is in the area hiding somewhere.

Penn Hills Police are also in on the investigation.
