Gas Line Hit, Broken In West Homestead

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Several homes were evacuated and a West Homestead neighborhood was shut down today because of concerns over a broken gas line.

Officials say someone was fixing a sewer line this afternoon along Cascade Drive and hit a three-inch gas line.

"We had a contractor working here and he hit a main line in front of his property," said West Homestead Fire Chief John Dindak. "We arrived on scene, we had full flowing gas. The police arrived here before us and started evacuating the homes. We continued evacuating the rest of the homes in the area."

Authorities report that several homes in the area were evacuated until crews could make repairs the line and the homes can be aired out.

Equitable Gas crews were called to the scene along with local police and fire crews.

Officials in West Homestead now tell us that all the evacuees have now been allowed back into their homes.
