On the eve of a march in the city's Hill District to focus on the plight of the unemployed, a tent city is starting to take shape in a vacant lot on Wylie Avenue, adjacent to the Monumental Baptist Church.
Several tents were set up this afternoon, and they will remain up until after the G-20 Summit comes to an end next Friday.
Among the early arrivals today was a group of school bus drivers from Boston, represented by the United Steelworkers Union.
Frantz Mendes, the President of Local 8751 of the Bus Drivers Union told KDKA-TV, "hopefully, those [individuals] who have the power to create jobs, will take this [demonstration] as an urgency to create jobs for the people."
Sunday afternoon's march will start near the Monumental Church and end up about three quarters of a mile away with a rally at Freedom Corner.
Organizer Larry Holmes says even though the nation's overall economy is getting better, there's a fear now that we could be seeing what he called "a permanent, high unemployment economy."
According to Holmes, Sunday's protest is open to everyone - not just the people who don't have jobs - because in reality, no one is ever immune from becoming unemployed.
