Pittsburgh Getting Positive PR Amid G-20

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― With media from around the world gathered in Pittsburgh to cover the G-20 Summit, local leaders were hoping the event would help the city shed its smoky image – and so far, they say they're pleased with the glowing reviews.

From CNN to the Wall Street Journal, many of the headlines focusing on Pittsburgh have been positive with newspapers, magazines and broadcast reports all touting the city's transformation "from grime to glam!"

"Just 10 years ago, you couldn't mention the words 'posh' and 'Pittsburgh' in the same sentence without a collective laugh," CNN's Jordan Valinsky wrote. "Not anymore"

Images of the city's skyline have been in the national and international spotlight over the last few days.

One story featured on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric referred to "the new Pittsburgh" as "a potent symbol of economic recovery in a time of financial crisis."

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl says he's happy to have the chance to show off the city to the world.

"I've done numerous interviews throughout the last couple of weeks," the mayor told KDKA's Kristine Sorensen, " and the first question they always ask is 'Why Pittsburgh?'"

Ravenstahl says it's a question he doesn't mind at all. "It gives us a chance to tell that message -- about the transformation of this region, about the good things that are happening here."
