With the G-20 Summit less than a day away, security is tightening downtown and some streets have already been closed.
Wooden barricades blocked off streets around the Omni William Penn Hotel.
Chain link fences some with barbed wire at the top are going up and some sidewalks have been blocked off.
"Just walking is just kind of getting a little ridiculous at this point and time I mean even trying to get around here in Gateway Center that's usually open and accessible to everybody is kind of turning into a little bit of a mayhem," John Burger, from Shadyside, said.
Wednesday afternoon, some streets were practically empty except for police on motorcycles, bicycles, horses and on foot.
After midnight, three checkpoints will be set up at the Roberto Clemente Bridge on the North Shore, Fifth Avenue and Ross Street and the Smithfield Street Bridge.
Only certain delivery trucks, downtown residents, taxis and Port Authority buses can drive into downtown.
